Learn & Master Guitar is far and away the best guitar training
course we’ve seen yet. It is not inexpensive, but if you’re
serious about really learning guitar, it is well worth the
investment.
Quantity: All of
our reviewers commented on the sheer size of this course. It is
not for those who are simply looking to mess around on guitar.
There are ten full DVDs, five play-along CDs, a thick lesson
book, and even more materials online. The website claims that
it includes everything you need to go from total beginner all
the way to professional level playing, and even our most
advanced reviewers agreed that it’s pretty much true.
Quality: Our
reviewers were also quite impressed with the course's quality.
It appears that no expense was spared on the production, which
is quite unusual with instructional courses. Even the
play-along CDs sound like music you’d hear on the radio, which
comes as no surprise when you see the players they hired to make
it. Of course, all the fancy audio, video, and graphics in the
world are pointless if the instruction isn’t top-notch as well.
Once again, our reviewers were not disappointed. Everyone on
our review team, from the absolute beginners to the more
advanced players loved it.
Service: The
company provides customer support by both phone and email. It
was relatively easy to reach a real person, but only during
normal business hours. The service reps were friendly and
knowledgeable, and when we returned one of our copies for a
refund, it was handled promptly and without incident.
Online Support:
This came as a bit of a surprise, but the company actually gives
free online support to everyone who buys the course. They
provide a access to a “members only” website where students can
post questions and discuss their progress. Most questions are
answered within a day or so, usually by the course’s author.
You can also read everyone else’s questions and answers, which
we found helpful.
Negatives:
There
wasn’t really much of anything we didn’t like about this course,
except perhaps the price. We would certainly agree that you get
more than your money’s worth, but it seems that they could offer
some kind of starter version for those who can’t afford the
whole thing. Try to catch it when it’s on sale.
Bottom Line:
We consider this to be by far
the best home-study course for guitar that money can buy – if
you have the money to buy it. The instruction is first class,
it includes free online support from actual guitar teachers, and
our reviewers simply loved it.
Buyer’s Tip:
The Deluxe Version seems to go on sale every three months or so, usually for $50
off. If price is a concern, check the website often or sign up
for the newsletter so you can be notified of the next sale.
